Up to version 6.0, periodic boundary conditions were implemented in z-direction only. Thus the periodic option was practically applicable to periodic transmission-line problems only. In the present version, periodicity can be enforced along any or all of the three coordinates.
Moreover, periodic boundary conditions have been implemented in ports (and thus in template calculation), in plane wave excitation box and in NTF postprocessing surfaces. We have also introduced excitation of periodic structures on both real and imaginary grids, making it possible to launch travelling waves.
Periodicity can be enforced along any or all of the three coordinates.
Finally, the periodic option can now be used with lossy and dispersive media as well as metamaterials. The new features open vast areas of software applications in the domains of microwave periodic structures, photonic cristals, and optical scatterometry.
