7. Simulator display of dispersive media characteristics vs frequency and improved treatment of boundaries between dispersive and non-dispersive media
Version 6.5 brings several extensions in dispersive media analysis. As previously, the user declares dispersive media parameters in QW-Editor. Now QW-Simulator allows verifying if the resultant frequency-domain characteristics comply with the user’s intentions. After opening Test Mesh window, select Dispersive Media Info from its Setup group. Real and imaginary parts of complex permittivity and/or permeability are displayed in the frequency band of Postprocessing or I/O parameters, as explained in Section S 2.6.
Rigorous treatment of boundaries between dispersive and non-dispersive media is a difficult task leading to multipole models. Field averaging across such boundaries may compromise accuracy or even stability of the analysis. Significant work has been done to introduce robust but accurate models in version 6.5. For our previous standard examples the results have not visibly changed as big volumes of dispersive media are considered there. A new example with a thin Drude plate has been added in Section UG 2.14.
